RWJBarnabas Health Partners is a physician-led organization that supports
the collaboration of medical professionals and empowers providers to offer
coordinated, exceptional care to patients, while guiding clinical practice and
effectively managing expenditures.
RWJBarnabas Health Partners was built in response to the shift healthcare
providers are experiencing from fee-for-service reimbursement models to
performance and value-based payments. This new entity supports a
partnership that centers around patient care and outcomes, and focuses
on disease prevention and management. Together we can ensure we are
building healthy communities.
How is RWJBarnabas Health Partners different from the RWJBarnabas Health
Accountable Care Organization (ACO)?
The RWJBH Accountable Care, LLC was developed to facilitate participation in the Medicare Shared Savings
Program (MSSP), a program developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services with the
goal of encouraging providers to improve the quality of care provided to Medicare fee-for-service
beneficiaries, while reducing the total costs of caring for such patients. Meanwhile, RWJBarnabas Health
Partners operates under additional value-based models with commercial managed care companies and
seeks to improve the quality of care provided to beneficiaries while managing the costs of caring for
patients. In contrast to the MSSP, some of the commercial value-based models offer some up-front financial
support for transforming providers’ practices towards a value-based approach to managing patients' care.
